Ph.D. (Business and Economics) + Ph.D. (Strategy and Development of Emerging Industrial) Dual Degree
Overview of the Program
Dual Degree: Jointly offered by Assumption University (Thailand) and National Chi Nan University (Taiwan). Graduates will receive Ph.D. in Business and Economics from Assumption University AND Ph.D. in Strategy and Development in Emerging Industries from National Chi Nan University.
Bilingual Education: Coursework is offered in Chinese and English parallelly so students can opt to study the coursework in their preferred languages; research and publication are conducted in English. Students will have an opportunity to study both in Bangkok and Taiwan and to experience two distinct business environments under different cultures.
Preparing scholars who will receive the best training in the theoretical and methodological approaches used in economics combined with the specific techniques in business applications.
Graduates are expected to be particularly attractive hires for academic positions in economics and business schools as well.
Admission Requirements
Applicants should meet the credentials and submit the materials stipulated as follows when seeking admission into the Program.

Master’s degree from institutions accredited or acknowledged by the Thai Ministry of Education

GPA of at least 3 on a scale of 4.00 or equivalent for the master’s degree

TOEFL score of at least 580 PBT or 90 iBT, or IELTS score of at least 7.0, with minimum 7.0 in writing, OR a passing score of the Assumption University English Proficiency Standard Test for Graduate Programs. IELTS and TOEFL scores only remain valid for two years. The score certificate must be valid at the point that one completes the submission of all necessary admission materials. The admission requirement is exempted for applicants whose bachelor’s or master’s degree is conferred by a higher education institution in the countries where the media of instruction is English.

Statement of purpose indicating the applicant’s objectives for pursuing a doctoral degree

Applicants must demonstrate sufficient command of both oral and written Chinese language during the interview stage.
Graduation Requirements

Have completed all the courses required by the program with a minimum grade of B or S
-
Have obtained a cumulative grade point average (C.GPA) of at least 3.00 (Only applicable to Type 2.1)

Have passed the qualifying examinations (Only applicable to Type 2.1)

Have proposed the dissertation and passed the oral dissertation proposal defense evaluated by a committee appointed by the Program. The oral dissertation proposal defense is open to the public

Have completed the dissertation under supervision of two advisers, one assigned by MSME and the other assigned by NCNU and passed the oral dissertation final defense evaluated by a committee appointed by the Program with at least one external member from other universities in Thailand or Taiwan. The oral dissertation final defense is open to the public

For students who choose “Thesis by Publication,” two articles from the dissertation must be either published or accepted officially to publish in international peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus, SCI, SSCI or equivalent (in accordance with OHEC’s Regulation on Criteria for Selection of Academic Journal Publication of Academic Work, B.E. 2556). For students who choose “Monograph Thesis,” one research paper derived from the entire dissertation must be either published or accepted officially to publish in an international peer-reviewed journal indexed in Scopus, SCI, SSCI or equivalent (in accordance with OHEC’s Regulation on Criteria for Selection of Academic Journal Publication of Academic Work, B.E. 2556).

Have not been charged by either University, Court or any other official organizations for violation of the rules, regulations or laws
Exemption
The AU English Proficiency Test can be exempted depending on which of the following conditions you satisfy.

a TOEFL score of (iBT) 90 or an IELTS (Academic) score of at least 6.5 (Validation: Two years)

a Bachelor's degree or a higher degree from native English speaking countries (e.g. USA, Canada, UK, and New Zealand)
